MBABANE – The year 2025 has marked a turning point for Siphofaneni, with the area emerging as a centre of vast development, according to the Member of Parliament Hon. Nomalungelo LaZwide Simelane.
Speaking during the official opening of the new Hungry Lion franchise at Siphofaneni Plaza on Monday, MP Simelane expressed heartfelt gratitude to the popular fast-food outlet for investing in the area. She said the opening of the store has already created 20 jobs for local residents, bringing hope and relief to families who previously had no source of income.
“Many young people were without jobs, and now they have something to take home. This is not just food on the table, but dignity restored,” she said.
The event was graced by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Hon. Manqoba Khumalo, who joined local leaders and residents in the opening of the Hungry Lion franchise .
The Member of Parliament Simelane highlighted Siphofaneni’s strategic location as a key factor in attracting businesses. Positioned at the junction leading to Big Bend and the Lavumisa Border Gate to South Africa, the town now offers travelers a place to stop, shop, and eat shifting from the days when people relied mainly on roadside fruit stalls.
She also used the opportunity to advocate for more inclusive economic participation. Simelane appealed to Minister Khumalo to ensure local poultry farmers are educated on Hungry Lion’s supply requirements so they can tap into opportunities to supply chicken and related products. “This would reduce the burden of transporting supplies from far away places and empower local businesses,” she added.
In May, this publication reported the opening of a new Eswatini Bank branch at Siphofaneni Plaza. Plans are also underway for the construction of a multimillion Emalangeni oil reserve, further boosting the town’s economic profile.
Indeed, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of transformation for Siphofaneni.
