LOBAMBA – The 30 waste collection bins donated by Eswatini Wire prior to the 40/58 national celebrations have continued to play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness in and around Somhlolo National Stadium and the broader Lobamba area.
Following His Majesty’s celebrations at Somhlolo National Stadium, the 30 waste collection bins handed over to the Lobamba Council have played an important role in maintaining cleanliness in the days after the event. Placed at strategic places around Lobamba, they have helped reduce littering, encouraged proper waste disposal, and made post-event clean-up efforts more efficient.
What’s particularly encouraging is that the bins continue to serve the community beyond the celebrations, supporting ongoing waste management in and around the stadium and surrounding areas. This reinforces the importance of sustainable solutions that extend their impact well after major events have ended.
The feedback so far has been very positive and encouraging. The Lobamba Council has expressed appreciation for the timely support, noting that the bins significantly improved waste management during and after the celebrations at Somhlolo National Stadium. They highlighted how the availability of clearly placed bins made it easier to manage large crowds and reduced the strain on their clean-up teams. Residents and event attendees have welcomed the initiative, with many noting that the environment remained noticeably cleaner compared to previous large gatherings.
There has also been a growing sense of awareness around responsible waste disposal, with people actively using the bins and encouraging others to do the same. This reflects a shared appreciation for efforts that promote cleanliness and a willingness from the community to support and sustain such initiatives moving forward.
Since the conclusion of the national celebrations, the 30 donated bins have been fully integrated into ongoing waste management efforts within Inkhundla yakaLobamba. They are being strategically placed in high-footfall public areas such as community gathering points, public walkways, and around key facilities. The Council plans to maintain and monitor the bins regularly to ensure durability and effectiveness, while incorporating them into ongoing community awareness efforts around litter control and proper waste segregation.
Early observations since the King’s birthday celebrations on April 24 show a visible improvement in waste management behaviour. Littering in key public areas has reduced, and waste is being more consistently disposed of in designated bins. Clean-up teams have reported that post-event and routine waste collection has become more efficient. Community awareness has improved, with more residents and visitors showing greater responsibility when using public spaces.
Eswatini Wire has expressed strong interest in scaling the initiative under the “Eswatini Wire Cares” campaign, with plans to roll out similar donations to other inkhundla. The feedback from the Council of Lobamba, Indvuna neBucopo, and local residents has been overwhelmingly positive. Some community members have even been seen actively encouraging others to use the bins, reflecting a growing sense of shared responsibility.
The donation has demonstrated a practical and sustainable approach to supporting national events while contributing to long-term environmental benefits in the Lobamba community.
