MATSAPHA – Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs Hon. Jane Mkhonta-Simelane says faith gatherings continue to play an important role in growing tourism, supporting businesses and uplifting women in Eswatini.
The minister was speaking during the 9th edition of Break Your Shell Eswatini held at Esibayeni Lodge.
Mkhonta-Simelane said Eswatini’s culture of worship and unity continues to attract visitors from different countries, creating opportunities for both the tourism sector and ordinary emaSwati.
She said the gathering attracted more than 200 international visitors and over 100 local participants, leading to full hotel bookings and increased business activity in the area.
“When people come to Eswatini for worship and conferences, they also contribute to tourism and the economy. Government benefits through tax, while transport operators and small businesses selling fruits and vegetables also make an income,” she said.
The minister added that the event also gave visitors an opportunity to experience the country’s rich culture through visits to Mantenga Cultural Village.
Founded in 2017 by Pastor Phiwayinkhosi Mabuza, Break Your Shell Eswatini is an annual women’s empowerment and Mother’s Day event focusing on healing, spiritual restoration and personal growth.
Speaking during the gathering, Mabuza said the initiative was created to help women overcome life challenges and find purpose.
“We want to see women happy because a happy mother creates a happy home, and a happy home creates a happy nation,” she said.
She encouraged women to support one another through mentorship, advice and sharing life skills.
This year’s theme, “Footprints of a Black Woman,” celebrated the strength and legacy of women who continue to rise above challenges and inspire future generations.
Chairperson of the Women Parliamentary Caucus, Senator Dr Linda Nxumalo, said women should use every opportunity to leave a positive legacy in their homes, workplaces and communities.
She said future generations must be able to learn from the lives and contributions of today’s women.
The gathering also coincided with the arrival of believers from the Nazareth Baptist Church who are in the country alongside His Holiness Unyazi Lwezulu, a development that has further increased the number of visitors entering Eswatini.
The event has gained significant prestige in Eswatini, having previously been graced by Inkhosikati Make LaMbikiza, who emphasized the nurturing role of mothers during the 2025 celebration
The programme featured worship sessions, motivational talks, cultural storytelling through African attire and performances by celebrated gospel artist Buhle Thela.
