MBABANE Every decision a young person makes today can shape a lifetime. Recognising this, stakeholders have taken an important step to ensure future generations are equipped not only with knowledge, but with the confidence, resilience and practical life skills needed to navigate an increasingly complex world.

The Life Skills Education Manual Validation marked a significant milestone in strengthening a resource designed to prepare young people for real life challenges. The exercise focused on ensuring the manual is practical, relevant and firmly rooted in the everyday experiences of youth, making it a valuable guide for personal growth and responsible decision making.

Participants from various sectors engaged in thoughtful discussions, reviewing the manual’s content and sharing recommendations to enhance its effectiveness. Their contributions were aimed at ensuring the resource reflects the realities young people encounter while providing practical solutions to help them overcome challenges and seize opportunities.

The validation explored a broad range of essential life skills, including self awareness, communication, decision making, assertiveness, setting healthy boundaries, empathy, digital literacy, problem solving, conflict resolution and personal safety. These competencies are increasingly recognised as vital in helping young people build confidence, strengthen relationships and make informed choices throughout their lives.

Beyond academic achievement, stakeholders emphasised that life skills empower young people to become responsible citizens who can prevent violence, resolve conflicts peacefully, protect themselves and others, and contribute meaningfully to safer and healthier communities.

The discussions also highlighted the growing importance of digital literacy in an era where technology has become part of everyday life. By equipping young people with the skills to navigate digital spaces responsibly while developing emotional intelligence and interpersonal abilities, the manual seeks to prepare them for success both online and offline.

The validation process created an open and inclusive platform where participants reflected honestly on the challenges facing today’s youth and identified practical ways to make the manual more responsive to their needs. The collaborative approach demonstrated a shared commitment to ensuring no young person is left behind.

The Eswatini National Youth Council (ENYC) reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that empower young people through education, leadership development and life skills training. The organisation believes that investing in youth is an investment in stronger families, resilient communities and a brighter future for Eswatini.

As the revised manual moves towards implementation, it is expected to become a powerful tool that inspires young people to believe in themselves, make positive choices and become active drivers of sustainable national development.
