FROM VILLAGE BEATS TO VIRGIN MUSIC: DJ KAYD BOIZEN BREAKS GROUND FOR ESWATINI SOUND

NHLANGANO- DJ Kayd Boizen’s musical journey began with a smartphone and a dream. Today, he’s rewriting the narrative for rural talent across Eswatini.

Emerging from the quiet town of Nhlangano, Eswatini, DJ Kayd Boizen is quickly becoming a continental sensation, proving that even the humblest beginnings can give rise to greatness. Real name Simphiwe, this genre-fusing DJ and music producer has surpassed 177,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and is the first Eswatini-born artist to sign a distribution deal with Virgin Music.

“My journey started in Form 5,” he recalls. “I used to listen to a lot of music, then a friend introduced me to FL Studio Mobile. I started producing beats on my smartphone, using only earphones.”

DJ Kayd Boizen’s sound is a rich blend of Amapiano, 3-step, Afrohouse, and soulful grooves, deeply inspired by South African trailblazers like Master KG, Sdala B, and Zakes Bantwini. His authenticity and persistence have led him to collaborate with big names such as Da Mabusa, Sdala B, Seezus Beats, Charlotte Lyf, Ifani, Lwami, and Ladysphesh, collaborations that catapulted his career and taught him the inner workings of the music industry.

But the road hasn’t been easy. “I come from a village where there’s no development and music isn’t taken seriously. People made fun of me. I used to post my tracks on Facebook, but they were mostly ignored,” he says. “Some of the sounds I couldn’t even hear properly because I was using cheap earphones.”

Everything changed when he connected with producer Da Mabusa on social media. “He took me from my home to Midrand, Johannesburg, where I’m now based,” says Kayd. “That moment changed my life.”

Signed under Major Role Music, DJ Kayd Boizen continues to raise the bar for Swazi artists. Beyond his viral streaming numbers and elite collaborations, his story is one of resilience, self-belief, and the power of digital platforms.

“It’s possible,” he emphasizes. “You just have to believe in yourself, be consistent, and use whatever resources you have. Your background doesn’t define you.”
