MBABANE- After years of pain and hardship, an 87-year-old woman from Ondiyaneni has finally found comfort and dignity thanks to the swift response of the Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society.
Gogo *Kheselina Ndzinisa, who has been battling severe health challenges and difficult living conditions, has been provided with a family-size tent, three blankets, and three sleeping mats through the Red Cross Nhlangano Branch.
She now shares safer and more comfortable shelter with six of her family members, including her daughter, grandson, and two young children.
The Intervention was coordinated by Silele Red Cross Clinic Head Nurse, Phumlile Gina, after a Rural Health Motivator (RHM) alerted the clinic to Gogo Ndzinisa’s situation.
“We visited Gogo after receiving the alert from one of our RHMs. We found that she is blind and has been unable to walk due to a leg fracture she sustained about four years ago, which has developed complications. She recently returned home after spending several years in hospital, only to continue living in a single, worn-out tent with her family,” explained Gina.
Moved by her circumstances, the Nhlangano Branch swiftly responded, ensuring Gogo and her family received emergency relief items to improve their living conditions. The family had previously been exposed to harsh weather as their old tent could not close properly.
Nurse Gina expressed gratitude to the branch and highlighted the ongoing need for more sustainable support. “We are thankful for the immediate response. However, Gogo still requires further assistance, particularly a permanent house structure for her safety and dignity.
At the clinic, we will continue supporting her with her health needs. We also extend our appreciation to the Rural Health Motivators, whose commitment to their communities helps us identify such urgent cases,” she said.
