LOBAMBA- Government is moving to transform Tinkhundla centres into modern service delivery hubs through major infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving facilities, security and community services.
The Ministry of Tinkhundla Administration and Development has set aside E25.375 million for the Reconstruction of Tinkhundla Centres project during the 2026/2027 financial year.
This is contained in the Ministry’s First Quarter Performance Report for the 2026/2027 financial year, which highlights ongoing and planned projects aimed at strengthening grassroots administration and development.
The allocation will support the reconstruction of KuMethula Inkhundla, fencing of selected imiphakatsi, and the installation of solar-powered lighting and CCTV security systems.
According to the report, construction at KuMethula Inkhundla is progressing steadily, with the project expected to deliver a modern and functional administrative hub that will improve operations and service delivery.
The Ministry has also allocated E1.5 million towards the Imiphakatsi Fencing Project. The report states that site identification is being finalised before the procurement process begins.
Another E1.5 million has been set aside for solar-powered lighting and CCTV installation at selected centres. Planning and procurement processes are underway for the installation of high mast lights and security cameras to improve safety.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has allocated E2.625 million towards the Tinkhundla Development Plans project for the 2026/2027 financial year.
The project aims to establish a Tinkhundla Integrated Development Plan Framework (TIDPF), which will guide short, medium and long-term development planning.
Once developed, individual Tinkhundla will use the framework to prepare Integrated Development Plans based on the needs and priorities of their communities.
The report indicates that the Ministry has requested funding authority from the Ministry of Finance to begin developing the framework and individual plans.
Government is also continuing with the Construction of New Tinkhundla Centres project, which has received E21.875 million from local funds.
The funding will go towards completing construction works at Phondo Inkhundla, where progress currently stands at 40 per cent completion.
The Ministry stated that it is closely monitoring the project to ensure that construction timelines and quality standards are maintained.
In addition, E788 000 has been allocated for the rehabilitation of Kubuta and Matsanjeni North Tinkhundla centres.
The Ministry has requested funding approval from the Ministry of Finance, with rehabilitation works expected to start once approval is granted.
The projects form part of Government’s efforts to strengthen Tinkhundla administration by improving infrastructure, enhancing security and creating better facilities for delivering services to Emaswati.
