MANZINI– In a symbolic and heartwarming display of unity, Minister of Education and Training Owen Nxumalo and Principal Secretary Nanikie Mnisi brought smiles to many faces as they danced together during the World Teachers’ Day celebration held at The George in Manzini on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Their cheerful dance not only delighted those in attendance but also sent a clear public message — the once highly publicised tension between the two senior officials has been resolved.
The gesture followed Minister Nxumalo’s formal apology to the House of Assembly on Thursday, October 9, 2025, where he acknowledged the earlier dispute with PS Mnisi and expressed regret for the fallout that had drawn public scrutiny.
Addressing the House during the Second Quarter Performance debate for the Ministry of Education, Nxumalo extended his apologies to Speaker Jabulani Mabuza, Deputy Speaker Madala Mhlanga, and all Members of Parliament (MPs). He said his actions were guided by a desire to promote good governance, strong leadership, and unity within the ministry.
“I am a person who believes in dialogue,” Nxumalo told Parliament. “When people are not on the same page, the best way forward is to talk things through. It was my duty to practice what I preach, and I am happy to report that the PS and I are now on good terms.”
The Minister added, in a lighthearted tone, that he and the PS were now “one,” a statement that drew laughter and applause from MPs who welcomed the news of reconciliation. Observers say the move reflects maturity and professionalism on both sides and demonstrates how conflict resolution can strengthen institutional cooperation.
Nxumalo’s apology was also seen as a gesture of accountability and respect toward Parliament, underscoring the importance of maintaining trust and stability in the leadership of the education sector.
By choosing to resolve their differences amicably, both Nxumalo and Mnisi have sent a powerful message to public servants about the importance of teamwork and mutual respect in achieving government objectives.
Their renewed collaboration comes at a critical time, as the Ministry of Education continues to implement key reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of education, improving school infrastructure, and ensuring that teachers and learners are adequately supported.
As the two danced in celebration of educators’ contributions to the nation, many attendees viewed the moment as a sign of healing and a new chapter for the Ministry. The joyful display of unity at The George served as a public reaffirmation that, in Nxumalo’s own words — “We are OK.”
