BULANDZENI – The Ministry of Health has taken its malaria prevention campaign directly to the people of Bulandzeni and Mndandala through a community awareness roadshow aimed at promoting early detection, prevention and timely treatment while bringing essential health services closer to residents.
The roadshow, led by the Ministry’s Health Promotion Unit in collaboration with the National Malaria Programme and its partners took place on Friday raising awareness about malaria, its signs and symptoms, and the importance of seeking medical attention promptly when symptoms develop.
The outreach seeks to empower community members with information and accessible health services, enabling them to make informed decisions about their health and protect their families against preventable illnesses.
During the roadshow, residents were educated on malaria prevention measures, the importance of recognizing warning signs early and the need to follow health professionals’ advice when seeking treatment. There were prizes that were won in ll those that heard when being taught.
BRINGING HEALTH SERVICES CLOSER
Beyond malaria awareness, the initiative provided the opportunity for community members to access a range of essential screening and testing services without having to travel far from their homes.
The integrated outreach includes malaria screening, non-communicable diseases (NCDs) screening, HIV testing, tuberculosis (TB) screening and cancer screening.
By bringing these services into the community, the Ministry aims to encourage more people to check their health status, identify possible health conditions early and seek appropriate care and referral where necessary.
The initiative also highlights the importance of community-based health education in strengthening disease prevention and improving access to healthcare, particularly by making essential services more accessible to people in their own communities.
COMMUNITY ACTION KEY TO MALARIA PREVENTION
Malaria remains a preventable and treatable disease, making awareness, early detection and timely medical intervention essential in reducing its impact.
Through the roadshow, residents are encouraged to remain alert to malaria symptoms, take appropriate preventive measures and seek medical attention promptly if they become unwell.
The campaign further reinforces the importance of taking personal responsibility for health while working collectively to build healthier and better-informed communities.
The Bulandzeni and Mndandala outreach reflects the Ministry of Health’s efforts to take health information and essential services beyond healthcare facilities and directly to the people, promoting a proactive approach to disease prevention and overall well-being.
Through continued community engagement, health education and accessible screening services, the Ministry and its partners seek to strengthen prevention efforts and encourage residents to prioritise their health.
