MBABANE – Doctors and other health practitioners have advised one another on embracing artificial intelligence (AI) in order to be efficient as they give health services to the nation.

This transpired on March 3, 2025 during a Health Symposium, which was held at Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini. The health practitioners agreed that in their line of work, they needed to embrace this technological discovery because it could help them achieve remarkable success in their field of work.

According to Dr Khotso Dale Ramphele from The Clinic Group is of the view AI can help in ensuring that an efficient diagnosis of diseases could be done on patients. It can also help in checking if the medicines to be prescribed on patients are the right ones or not. He also saw the AI as a right tool to help in keeping all the information that could be used in future.

According to online sources such as Doctors Management, Michigan Technology University, and Post Graduate Medical Education, AI can significantly benefit health practitioners by automating tasks, enhancing diagnostics, personalizing treatments, and improving efficiency, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes and reduced burnout.

Here’s a more detailed look at how AI can assist healthcare professionals:

  1. Enhanced Diagnostics and Early Disease Detection:
  • Image Analysis:

AI algorithms can analyze medical images (X-rays, CT scans, MRIs) to detect subtle anomalies and patterns that might be missed by the human eye, leading to earlier and more accurate diagnoses.

  • Predictive Analytics:

AI can assess large datasets to identify patterns and risk factors associated with diseases, helping healthcare providers estimate the likelihood of certain individuals developing conditions and diseases, enabling proactive interventions.

  • Early Detection of Diseases:

AI can assist in monitoring patients, such as in chronic disease management, by continuously analyzing patient data and detecting deteriorating health conditions earlier, allowing for quicker interventions.

  1. Personalized Treatment and Medication Management:
  • Personalized Treatment Plans:

AI can analyze genetic, clinical, and lifestyle data to create personalized treatment plans for patients, optimizing treatment outcomes.

  • Medication Adherence:

AI can help predict and improve medication adherence by analyzing patient data and identifying factors that may influence a patient’s ability to follow prescribed medication regimens.

  • Dose Optimization:

AI can assist with dose optimization and therapeutic drug monitoring, ensuring patients receive the most effective and safe dosages.

  1. Streamlined Workflows and Administrative Efficiency:
  • Automated Tasks:

AI can automate repetitive tasks, such as medical scribe technology automatically capturing visit notes and storing them in a patient’s medical record.

  • Clinical Decision Support:

AI algorithms can provide doctors with real-time guidance and recommendations based on patient data, helping them make informed decisions.

  • Reduced Burnout:

By automating tasks and providing efficient tools, AI can reduce the workload and cognitive burden on healthcare providers, potentially preventing burnout.

  • Improved Patient Flow:

AI can help optimize hospital workflows, improve patient flow, and enhance the overall patient experience.
