MATSAPHA – Officers from His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) gathered on Wednesday at the Matsapha Staff College for a Gender Network workshop aimed at discussing wellness, professionalism and gender inclusivity within the correctional services environment.
The workshop brought together members of the correctional services’ Lutsango network and senior officials to deliberate on challenges affecting officers, particularly women working in the security sector.
The programme was held under the theme “Silutsango Lwase Correctional, Siyabiya ngelwati – Sihlelelekile,” which organisers said encourages discipline, leadership and informed decision-making among officers.
Speaking during the event, Commissioner General LaMakhoisini Phindile Dlamini said platforms that allow officers to exchange experiences and knowledge are important in strengthening professionalism and improving workplace support systems.
Senior officials who attended the workshop included Commissioners Cyril Maseko and Phindile Sibandze, as well as Regional Commissioners Zodwa Maseko and Gab’sile Manyatsi. Discussions during the workshop focused on issues affecting officers’ wellbeing, including mental health, workplace pressures and financial management.
Representatives from the Public Service Health and HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee (PSHACC) also delivered presentations on financial wellness. Officials Faith Sithole and Majaha Masina advised officers to adopt responsible financial practices to reduce stress and improve stability in their personal lives.
They noted that financial difficulties often affect employee performance and wellbeing, making financial planning an important skill for public servants. Participants were encouraged to develop practical strategies to manage their finances and maintain a balanced lifestyle while fulfilling their professional responsibilities.
HMCS officials said the workshop forms part of ongoing efforts within the organisation to address workplace challenges and support officers in their duties. The correctional services continues to host similar programmes aimed at improving working conditions and strengthening professional networks within the service.
