MBABANE – Icey Sz blends genres with creative passion!
The sound of Eswatini’s youth is evolving, and Icey Sz, born Mnisi Luhlelolwenkhosi, is right at the heart of this creative movement. A proud student at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, where he’s pursuing an Associate Degree in Graphic Design, Icey is living proof that artistry knows no boundaries—especially when it comes to genre-defying music.
The 21-year-old Mbabane-born artist is blazing his own trail by fearlessly merging Hip-hop, RnB, Afro beats, and more to create music that reflects both personal experiences and a generation unafraid to experiment.
“I love experimenting with different sounds,” Icey says. “That’s how I grow, and how I connect with people.”
His journey began humbly at age 15, inspired by his grandfather, a passionate musician from the 1970s. With only a cellphone and a dream, Icey started recording songs in his bedroom—downloading beats and learning how to express his voice through lyrics. Each DIY track was a stepping stone in discovering his musical identity.
“Those early days were all about learning and exploring,” he recalls. “Even with just a phone, I gave it everything I had.”
A game-changing moment came when Icey entered a professional studio for the first time. “It was surreal,” he shares. “I finally heard my voice come alive on a real mic with a real producer. That’s when I knew this was more than just a hobby.”
Now, Icey is gaining recognition for his honest storytelling and genre fluidity. His standout single “Feel,” featuring MaeLee, dives deep into vulnerability and young love—two recurring themes in his emotionally resonant work.
Drawing from his Mbabane upbringing, his creative studies, and artists like Nasty C, Icey is motivated by the belief that representation matters.
“Seeing someone like Nasty C succeed made me believe I could too,” he says. “It made the dream real.”
Looking ahead, Icey is working on a new single dedicated to his city, featuring both local and international collaborations. He’s also developing a genre-blending EP that captures his growth as a songwriter, storyteller, and performer. Balancing design by day and music by night, Icey Sz is building more than a brand—he’s building a legacy.
