MPISI FARM – The third day of Umhlanga 2026 has reached a key point as the Imbali complete their reed-cutting activities at Mpisi Farm and prepare to return for the next stage of the ceremony.
Indvuna yeMbali Bongiwe ‘Vivane’ Hlatjwako confirmed that the day’s activities at the farm had been completed following the traditional reed-cutting exercise. Imbali, who spent the day at Mpisi Farm cutting reeds, are now expected to make their way back with the reeds to present them before Their Majesties.
The return journey marks the transition from the reed-cutting activities at the farm to the presentation of the reeds, an important part of the proceedings. Earlier in the day, members of the Imbali participated in the cutting of reeds, with several members of the royal family and the regiment also taking part in the traditional exercise.
HRH Princess Sakhizwe and Indvuna yeMbali Vivane led imbali back after the completion of the reed cutting. The maidens were seen returning in high spirits, singing and celebrating as they carried the freshly cut reeds. The completion of the Mpisi Farm activities brings the day’s work at the reed-cutting site to a close, while attention now turns to the presentation before Their Majesties.
Imbali’s participation in the annual ceremony continues to highlight the cultural traditions and practices that form part of Umhlanga, as the 2026 celebrations progress.
