MBABANE – The Indalo Exhibition has brought together Eswatini artisans, European parliamentarians and entrepreneurs, showcasing culture, creativity and sustainable design through European Union supported programmes.
The Indalo Exhibition held at Alliance Française de Mbabane is shining a spotlight on Eswatini’s growing creative industry and the impact of the European Union’s partnership with local entrepreneurs and artisans. The exhibition forms part of the EU-ITC co-Creation Programme which supports creative businesses and sustainable livelihoods in the country.
European Parliamentarians toured the exhibition, where they interacted with local business owners and creatives benefiting from the initiative. Among them was Deputy Head of Delegation and European Parliamentarian Jose Angel, who spoke on the European Union’s support towards the implementation of the SADC Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in Eswatini. Jose Angel highlighted that the partnership seeks to strengthen trade relations, empower local businesses and create sustainable economic opportunities through collaboration between Eswatini and the European Union.
According to information shared at the exhibition, “Indalo” is a siSwati word with two meanings, “nature” and “to create”. The exhibition celebrates Eswatini’s rich heritage of craftsmanship through collaborations between local artisans and international designers using sustainable natural materials.
The exhibition also showcases handwoven baskets, pottery, stoneware and other handmade products inspired by both traditional and modern design. Organisers explained that the initiative is helping local creatives position their work for global markets while preserving Eswatini culture and heritage.
ITC National Operations Manager Mawenzi Dlamini also spoke on the implementation of the EU Co-Creation Programme, saying it continues to empower entrepreneurs and small businesses through innovation, collaboration and skills development opportunities.
One of the beneficiaries, Melane Leather founder Dumsile Simelane, praised the European Union for providing important trainings that have improved business management, product development and market access opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
The exhibition further demonstrated how partnerships between Eswatini and international organisations can drive inclusive economic growth while promoting cultural pride, empowerment and sustainable design.
