MATSAPHA– His Majesty King Mswati III has commended the Eswatini Correctional Services (HMCS) for promoting gender equality, after being assigned a female interpreter for the first time since ascending to the throne.
Speaking during the Correctional Services Day celebrations at the Matsapha Correctional Services College on Friday, the King said the development was a clear indication that the institution was embracing gender balance and creating opportunities for women to take up important roles.
“It is indeed nice to be part of the event today. Since my coronation, I have never had a female interpreter. This shows that HMCS practises gender balance,” said the King.
The monarch’s remarks drew applause from the audience, as the historic moment highlighted the growing participation of women in professions and positions that were traditionally dominated by men.
His Majesty’s recognition of the female interpreter was seen as a significant endorsement of efforts to empower women and promote inclusivity within national institutions.
The milestone comes at a time when Government and various organisations are intensifying programmes aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for both men and women in leadership, professional development and public service.
The King’s comments added a special touch to the celebrations, underscoring the importance of recognising progress in gender equality while encouraging institutions to continue opening doors for women to contribute meaningfully to national development.
