EZULWINI – The opening of the new Hee Yeon Memorial (HYM) Clinic at Enyonyane has strengthened access to primary healthcare in one of Eswatini’s fastest-growing mixed-use areas, with Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula saying the facility reflects His Majesty King Mswati III’s vision of placing community health and wellbeing at the centre of national development.
The clinic was officially opened by His Majesty on Thursday, September 10, 2026, who also toured the facility before the Minister delivered his remarks during the speeches session at the Ezulwini Palazzo.
Speaking after the royal tour, Matsebula said the new health facility was not merely another building, but a practical investment in bringing healthcare closer to people and advancing Eswatini’s pursuit of Universal Health Coverage.
“It is my honour, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the entire health sector, to join this historic occasion – the official opening of HYM Clinic Enyonyane Ezulwini,” Matsebula said.
He said the establishment of the clinic represented a partnership for shared development and would contribute to placing healthcare at the heart of Ezulwini’s continued transformation.
The Minister paid tribute to His Majesty’s leadership, saying the King’s guidance had consistently ensured that the health and wellbeing of communities remained central to the country’s development agenda.
“Your Majesty, your guidance has consistently placed health and community wellbeing at the centre of national development, and has anchored our commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage, where all people receive the services they need, without financial hardship,” Matsebula said.
HEALTHCARE FOR A GROWING EZULWINI
The opening of HYM Clinic comes as Ezulwini continues to evolve from a largely rural valley into a diverse economic and residential hub.
Matsebula said that over the past four decades, the area had developed into a mixed-use zone incorporating tourism and hospitality, diplomacy and corporate investment, retail and services, as well as housing and community life.
The clinic, he said, was therefore strategically positioned to serve not only permanent residents, but also the large workforce supporting the Valley’s growing economy.
He said HYM Clinic would provide healthcare services to employees working in hostels, offices, shops and public institutions, while also benefiting families and residents who had made Ezulwini their home.
“The presence of this clinic is a major benefit for the families and residents who now call Ezulwini home, and the surrounding rural communities that depend on this Valley for economic opportunities,” he said.
The facility therefore adds a healthcare dimension to Ezulwini’s economic growth, ensuring that the expansion of tourism, commerce, investment and residential development is matched by improved access to essential social services.
TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT
Matsebula also highlighted the role played by traditional leadership in making the project possible, thanking the Ezulwini Royal Kraal for allocating land at Nyonyane and supporting the initiative.
He said the project demonstrated that traditional authority and modern healthcare systems could work together in responding to the needs of communities.
The Minister said the partnership behind the clinic was a reflection of the broader principle that sustainable national development requires cooperation between Government, traditional leadership, communities and international partners.
KOREAN PARTNERSHIP
Particular recognition was given to partners from the Republic of Korea, especially the Hee Yeon Memorial family and organisation, for supporting the establishment of the clinic.
Matsebula said their contribution went beyond the construction of the physical facility, describing it as a demonstration of solidarity and a shared belief that quality healthcare should be accessible to all.
He said the partnership reinforced the principle that a person’s access to healthcare should not be determined by where they live or their economic circumstances.
The Minister also acknowledged the support of Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini and Cabinet, Parliament and other health-sector stakeholders who contributed to advancing healthcare delivery in the country.
He described HYM Clinic as the outcome of a partnership involving traditional leadership, Government, international friends and the community.
MINISTRY TO SUPPORT STANDARDS
With the facility now operational, Matsebula said the Ministry of Health would work closely with HYM Clinic to ensure that its services aligned with national healthcare standards.
This includes standards governing healthcare professionals, the handling of medicines and medical supplies, and the use of national guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
He said the Ministry had been engaging with the clinic’s staff since the construction phase, providing guidance on expectations for primary healthcare service provision.
Matsebula expressed confidence that the relationship established between the Ministry and HYM Clinic leadership would allow the facility to expand its services and reach more sections of the population.
“We therefore commit to work with HYM Clinic on maintaining high standards of service delivery, patient safety and respectful care,” he said.
The opening of HYM Clinic consequently marks a significant addition to healthcare infrastructure in Ezulwini, where rapid economic and residential development continues to increase demand for accessible services.
For the Ministry, the facility represents more than increased infrastructure. It is part of the broader national effort to ensure that development translates into tangible improvements in the lives and wellbeing of communities.
