MBABANE – Former Minister of Education and Training Dr Phineas Magagula praises King Mswati III International Airport, saying it is one of the best.
Magagula said the airport was among the best in the SADC region. Speaking to Eswatini TV yesterday, December 19, 2024, the former Lomahasha Member of Parliament (MP) said he had the privilege of travelling around the world and he had seen many different air stations in many parts of the world.
According to the former minister, the airport was the best in the region when he compared it with other airports he had seen around the world. Magagula was among the Eswatini Air customers that were interviewed by the national television journalists.
Other airport users that were interviewed were also amused by the beauty they saw at the air station. They mentioned that they were impressed by the quality of the roads leading to the airport. The Royal Eswatini National Airways (RENAC) is one of the companies stationed at the airport. RENAC is a Government company established in 1978 to enable Emaswati to access air transportation.
Among RENAC’s portfolios is the company’s strategic business unit – Eswatini Air. In other words, Eswatini Air is a national airline managed by RENAC. Launched on March 26, 2023, Eswatini Air has two aircrafts, servicing three routes from Eswatini (KM III Airport), whose destinations are Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town (all South African cities), and Harare (the capital of Zimbabwe).
Since the airline started operating, the number of people using it for transportation is reportedly increasing and customers expressed their satisfaction with the services they got from the company. Eswatini Air’s Bathabile Nkambule said they were happy with the response they got from customers, who accessed their services.
Speaking to Eswatini TV, Nkambule said the way the customers responded showed that they were content with the services they provided, as a company. She said by the end of November 2024, they had serviced around 3 000 people. During the first week of December, Nkambule said they had already serviced around 1 000 people.
Eswatini Air has showed signs of improvement, since it started operating last year. It has recently been named as the Airline of the Year by the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) for intra-Africa connectivity for the year 2023.
