MBABANE – The Royal Eswatini Police Service reminds Emaswati that tomorrow marks the last day of the Firearm Amnesty Month, the final chance to do the right thing, without facing arrest or prosecution, as the time for leniency is now.
The initiative, launched earlier this month by the National Commissioner of Police, Manoma Vusie Masango, has given members of the public an opportunity to hand over illegal firearms and ammunition to their nearest police station, with full assurance of no legal consequences.
Commissioner Masango reminded the nation that after the grace period ends on September 30,3025, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) will embark on major nationwide operations to recover illegal firearms. He cautioned that those who fail to comply will face the full force of the law.
“We bank on every Liswati to take this initiative seriously and attach to it the much-desired significance so that not only are the guns silenced, but are all removed from our communities if illegally possessed,” he said.
The Commissioner noted with concern the rising number of illegal firearms recovered through arrests in recent months. He warned that many of these weapons often end up in the wrong hands, fuelling violent crimes such as armed robberies and murder.
“Tomorrow is the last chance to do the right thing. Surrender your illegal firearm now, while the door of amnesty remains open,” he urged.
Members of the public are reminded that all illegal firearms should be surrendered at the nearest police station by September 30,2025.
