MANZINI – The Manzini Municipal Council has officially launched a city-wide clean-up campaign on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 as part of preparations for the Kingdom of Eswatini’s celebration of His Majesty King Mswati III’s 40th Jubilee.
The initiative, led by Manzini Mayor Wesley Dlamini, brought together councillors, members of the municipal executive, development partners, the Manzini Committee, and residents in a coordinated effort to restore the city’s cleanliness and appearance ahead of the historic national milestone.
The campaign was launched in Manzini’s central business area and surrounding streets, with the aim of ensuring the city is clean, welcoming, and ready to receive visitors and tourists expected during the Jubilee celebrations. Officials said the clean-up is intended not only to beautify the city, but also to promote civic pride, environmental stewardship, and a lasting culture of cleanliness among residents.
Speaking during the launch, Mayor Wesley Dlamini said the occasion carries deep national significance and should be embraced by all Emaswati.“It is very rare to have a leader ruling for such a long time, so as a country we need to honour and celebrate that as Emaswati,” said Dlamini.
He noted that the clean-up campaign symbolises unity and patriotism as the country prepares for one of its most significant commemorations. Dlamini further urged residents not to view the exercise as a once-off event tied only to the Jubilee celebrations.
“The spirit of cleanliness should not end today just because Eswatini is expecting visitors,” he said. “This culture must continue beyond today so that Manzini remains clean and attractive at all times.”
Participants, including municipal officials and community members, were seen sweeping streets, collecting litter, and clearing public spaces as part of the morning’s activities.
The initiative comes at a time when the Kingdom is preparing to host guests from across the region and beyond, making cleanliness and order a priority for the city.
Municipal authorities have since called on businesses and residents to continue supporting the campaign to maintain a cleaner, greener, and prouder Manzini.
