MBABANE– Athletics Eswatini has officially confirmed Mavuso Sports Centre as the venue for the Senior Track and Field National Championships Qualifier scheduled for Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The national qualifier, which will start at 08:30 AM, is expected to attract athletes, coaches, officials and athletics clubs from across the country as competitors battle for qualification spots and an opportunity to represent the nation at higher-level competitions.
The event is regarded as one of the key fixtures on the local athletics calendar, providing a platform for athletes to test their performance levels, improve rankings and showcase their talent on the national stage.
According to a memo issued by the Athletics Eswatini Secretariat on May 6, the venue confirmation followed engagements with Mavuso Sports Centre after delays in finalising the facility.
The association apologised for the late update and acknowledged the inconvenience caused to athletes and clubs who were awaiting confirmation in preparation for the competition.
“In light of the delayed venue confirmation, entries for the competition are now open and will remain open until Thursday midnight,” read part of the memo.
Athletics Eswatini further encouraged all affiliated clubs and athletes to complete their registrations within the stipulated timeframe to ensure smooth planning and organisation of the championships.
The qualifier is expected to feature several track and field disciplines including sprints, middle and long-distance races, relays, jumps and throwing events, with athletes aiming to secure strong performances ahead of future regional and international competitions.
Mavuso Sports Centre remains one of the country’s leading sporting facilities and has previously hosted major athletics and multi-sport events, making it a suitable venue for the national qualifier.
Athletics Eswatini also thanked all stakeholders for their patience, cooperation and continued support towards the growth of athletics in the country.
