BUHLENI – Mbabane East Member of Parliament, Welcome Dlamini, has commended the Ministry of Education and Training for introducing Imvunulo in schools, saying the initiative will help learners preserve their cultural heritage.
Speaking recently, Dlamini highlighted the importance of connecting young learners to their roots. “For the kids to not lose their nationality and origin, introducing the traditional attire at school will help them a lot to know their roots,” he said.
The Imvunulo initiative is already making a visible impact in schools such as St Theresa Primary School and Somnjalose High School, where learners are embracing traditional clothing as part of their school uniforms.
Dlamini also praised the Babukisi Foundation for their efforts in promoting cultural education, noting, “The Babukisi Foundation is doing great work to educate learners at schools all around the country.”
The promotion of cultural identity in schools aligns with broader efforts to celebrate Eswatini’s linguistic and cultural diversity. On 23 February 2026 , the UNESCO, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Training, led the commemoration of International Mother Language Day at The Sports Emporium, University of Eswatini, under the theme “Youth Perspectives on Multilingual Learning.” The event highlighted the importance of multilingual learning and cultural preservation among the youth.
Through initiatives like Imvunulo and programs by the Babukisi Foundation, learners across Eswatini are gaining pride in their traditions while building a stronger sense of identity for the future.
