MBABANE– The Municipal Council of Mbabane and the Eswatini Water Services Corporation (EWSC) have officially entered into a transformative partnership.
The two entities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, designed to harmonise infrastructure management and elevate service delivery for the residents of the capital city.
This milestone agreement serves as a blueprint for a more resilient Mbabane. By formalising their collaboration, the Council and EWSC are committed to a shared vision of efficient infrastructure development and sustainable urban management. This strategic alignment is expected to eliminate previous bottlenecks in service coordination, ensuring that the city’s growth is matched by robust utility support.
The partnership leverages the combined expertise and resources of both institutions. Through integrated strategic planning, the EWSC and the Municipality aim to enhance water service delivery, which is fundamental to supporting Mbabane’s burgeoning communities.
This collaboration comes as Mbabane pursues its ambitious Integrated Development Plan (2024–2029). Under the leadership of CEO Gciniwe Fakudze, the Council is working to transform the capital into a “responsive smart city.” This MoU ensures that road maintenance and utility upgrades are synchronised to reduce service disruptions.
The EWSC is currently racing toward the national target of 100% clean water access by 2030. Managing Director Jabulile Mashwama has previously noted that reaching this goal requires deep institutional collaboration.
By pooling expertise, the EWSC and the Municipality aim to enhance water service delivery. This proactive approach ensures that as the city expands, its infrastructure remains world-class.
At the heart of this MoU is a unified vision for a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable capital. Access to reliable water and high-standard sanitation is viewed as a cornerstone for public health and economic growth.
By working in tandem, these organisations are creating a stable foundation that directly contributes to an improved quality of life for every resident, from the city centre to the suburban reaches.
