MBABANE – Christmas joy filled the Mbabane Government Hospital Maternity Ward on Thursday, December 25, 2025, as Minister of Health Mduduzi Matsebula, decked in festive attire, personally welcomed newborn babies and handed out Christmas gifts to mothers and their little ones.
The gifts, worth over E80,000, were made possible through the contribution of Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, together with FNB Eswatini (through the FNB Employee Volunteers Programme) and Pick n Pay Lojarf’s.
Early in December, the partners came together to ensure that babies born this festive season would feel love, care, and the true spirit of Christmas. The presents were distributed across all hospitals in the country on Christmas Day, bringing smiles to mothers and newborns nationwide.
The donation includeincludeed baby growers for 0–3 months and 3–6 months, receiving blankets, and jumbo packs of disposable nappies, carefully chosen to support new mothers and their babies during the festive period.
Mothers expressed heartfelt appreciation for the gesture. Khetsiwe Zwane, mother to baby boy Wenzokuhle Praise Tsela, said, “This is a beautiful way to welcome our babies. It truly shows love.” Bonisile Mabuza, mother to baby boy Yamihle Mashaya, added, “These gifts help us so much, especially during Christmas when expenses are high.”
Happiness Simelane, mother to Fezile Mlontjwa, shared, “I am very grateful. This is a Christmas I will never forget.” From Lomahasha, Siphesihle Lumbela, mother to baby girl Melisokuhle Dlamini, highlighted the nationwide reach of the initiative, noting that mothers across the country are included in this festive act of kindness.
At the time of compiling the report, Melisokuhle Dlamini was the only baby recorded at Mbabane Government Hospital, while 12 babies were reported countrywide before 8:00am on Christmas Day.
The Ministry of Health commended all contributors for turning Christmas into a celebration of compassion, hope, and care for the newest members of Eswatini society.
