MBABANE – The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs has officially unveiled the new nine-member King’s Cup Golf Task Team, which will serve a three-year term effective 15 January 2026.
The team has been entrusted with overseeing the planning, management, and coordination of the prestigious King’s Cup Golf Tournament.Speaking during the unveiling, Minister for Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Hon. Jane Mkhonta-Simelane, said the appointment reflects government’s confidence in the capacity of the selected members.
“The sole purpose of your being here is that Government has identified you as capable individuals who can be relied upon to deliver so I trust that you will accept your appointment and execute your duties with diligence and integrity,” said the Minister.
She outlined the committee’s core responsibilities, noting that the task team is expected to manage the tournament, scout for funding, and organize dates and venues in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.
“The ministry appoints you today to be members of the King’s Golf Cup task team, and the core duty of your appointment is to manage the golf tournament, scout funding, and organize dates and venues for the event,” she said.
The newly appointed task team is chaired by Samuel Richards and includes Mandla Dlamini, Vusi Dlamini, Angie Toepfer, Lucky Sihlongonyane, Sakhile Dlamini, Bongani Mdluli, Chunky Mdluli, with Sethabile Dludlu serving as Secretary.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Chairperson Samuel Richards said the team accepts the responsibility entrusted to them and is committed to working hard to deliver on its mandate. The Minister also acknowledged the contribution of the outgoing task team, commending them for their dedication and service.
“I would like to thank the outgoing members for their contribution, sacrifice and commitment during your time in office. Your contribution in making the tournament a success will remain etched in our minds,” she said.
Hon. Mkhonta-Simelane further urged the committee to familiarise themselves with their roles and to work closely with the Ministry, which will act as the secretariat to the task team once the gazette is issued.
“The goal is for the ministry and the committee to work towards a common goal in regulating and advancing golfing in the country,” she said.
She noted that the appointment will not exceed a period of three years and stressed that the committee is expected to hit the ground running, as there are already matters requiring its attention.
The Minister reminded members that the appointment should not be viewed as a secondary employment, but as a responsibility requiring engagement when substantial and urgent matters arise, as determined by the Chairperson.
