MHLANGATANE – Mpofu High School has unveiled new disability friendly toilet facilities valued at E240,904.53, aimed at improving hygiene and promoting inclusion on campus. The project, funded by Young Heroes in partnership with Imbita Women’s Finance Trust, was officially handed over during a ceremony attended by stakeholders from government ministries and disability rights organisations.
The inclusive ablution blocks are expected to benefit all learners and staff at the school, particularly students with special needs. Speaking at the handover, Headteacher Jerome Msweli expressed profound appreciation for the timely intervention, noting its impact on student well-being and health.
Headteacher Jerome Msweli expressed appreciation to the donors for recognising the fundamental right to sanitation and taking proactive steps to uphold it within the school. He noted that the new toilets would enable Mpofu High School to maintain the highest standards of hygiene for both students and staff.
He further noted that access to proper sanitation facilities is crucial for promoting good hygiene practices and preventing disease. The project directly supports the school’s mission of delivering quality education in a safe and inclusive environment free from discrimination and bullying.
Young Heroes Executive Director Khulekani Magongo said the project demonstrated the organisation’s commitment to improving services in marginalised communities. He expressed satisfaction that the support had addressed a pressing need and thanked the donors whose continued contributions enable Young Heroes to drive inclusive development.
Highlighting the impact of the disability inclusion initiative, Bongiwe Vilane, Senior Social Worker from the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, commended Young Heroes and Imbita Women’s Finance Trust for their support to Mpofu High School. She noted that their efforts are making a tangible difference in addressing the needs of persons with disabilities.
The inclusive sanitation facilities at Mpofu High School are more than just a construction project they represent a commitment to dignity, equality, and educational access for all. With the support of Young Heroes and Imbita Women’s Finance Trust, the school is now better equipped to uphold its mission of creating a safe, inclusive learning environment.
