EZULWINI– MTN Eswatini is set to present its three-year budget and strategic plan to MTN Group Senior Vice-President Ebenezer Asante during his visit to the Kingdom, with the telecommunications company seeking to accelerate investment in new technology and digital innovation.
Asante arrived in the country on Monday, September 21, 2026, for a day-and-a-half visit that MTN Eswatini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jerry Soko described as a significant engagement for the company and an indication of MTN Group’s commitment to supporting the Eswatini market.
Speaking when the company welcomed Asante at its headquarters, Mahlalekhukwini House in Ezulwini, Soko said the senior executive’s visit would provide an opportunity for the local leadership team to engage him on the company’s strategy and ambitions for Eswatini.
“He’s here to meet with the leadership team, talking about our strategy, our ambition for Eswatini,” Soko said.
The CEO said a major focus of the engagement would be MTN Eswatini’s plans for the next three years, including the company’s budget and investment programme.
“We are going to be presenting our budget and plan for the next three years,” he said.
According to Soko, the plan is geared towards accelerating investment in new technology as MTN Eswatini positions itself as a testbed for digital innovation and digital products within the MTN Group.
He said the company would use the engagement to brief Asante on work undertaken over the past several months, as well as plans for the next phase of digital products and services.
Among the technologies being considered is Voice over LTE (VoLTE), alongside broader plans to accelerate the digitisation of Eswatini.
“We’re looking at Voice over LTE. We’re looking at accelerating plans around how we want to accelerate digitization of Eswatini,” Soko said.
The company has in recent months introduced a number of digital products, and Soko said the next phase of innovations would also form part of the discussions with the visiting MTN Group executive.
He said the visit was important beyond MTN Eswatini’s internal leadership discussions, describing it as a statement of the group’s interest in supporting the local market through investment and collaboration.
“For us, it’s a very key visit,” Soko said.
He said MTN Group’s support would be important not only in terms of investment, but also in working with government to advance its digital ambitions.
Soko said Asante would meet the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT), as well as other strategic partners, during his stay.
The ICT Minister is currently outside the country, according to Soko.
The engagement comes as MTN Eswatini continues to position digitalisation and innovation as central to its future strategy, with the company seeking to expand technology-driven services while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.
Soko said the strongest expectation from the visit was securing Asante’s support for accelerating investment in Eswatini.
“What excites us the most is getting his support in terms of accelerating investment in Eswatini,” he said.
