MBABANE – Nhlakanipho Goodwill Mkhonta, popularly known as Napha Musiq, is continuing to build his name in the Eswatini music industry with the release of his Afro-inspired project “Wamuhle 2.0”, a track rooted in love, emotion and versatility.
The Nhlangano-based artist from Mahamba began his musical journey in 2015, drawing inspiration from international stars such as Drake, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Chris Brown and Davido, as well as local acts including Chaboy, Eimsofly and Liz Harris. This blend of influences helped shape his unique fusion of Hip-Hop, R&B and Afro-pop.
Napha Musiq describes his sound as a reflection of who he is as a person, balancing both the softer emotional side of life and its more challenging realities. Over the years, he has worked with several industry figures, including Sancheziey, during his time at Ariel Empire Studios between 2021 and 2024, where he was previously signed.
His latest release, “Wamuhle 2.0”, is an Afro-dancehall track produced by Sancheziey and mixed and mastered by DJ Sandz Wae. The song is deeply inspired by love, a theme Napha Musiq says is central to his identity as an artist. “I am a lover. I love to love. I believe love makes the world go round,” he said, explaining the message behind the track.
The artist revealed that “Wamuhle 2.0” was created after he felt the original version did not fully capture its potential. He wanted to enhance the sound, lyrics and overall feel to better connect with music lovers. The song features soothing vocals, strong 808s and basslines, delivering both emotion and rhythm.
The chorus, inspired during the beat-making process in 2023 at Ariel Empire Studios in Ngwane Park, carries a memorable melody that reflects admiration and affection. Napha Musiq said listeners should expect a warm, romantic and danceable experience from the track.
His songwriting is heavily influenced by his upbringing in Nhlangano and Mahamba, where he draws stories, experiences and cultural inspiration. He describes the area as one filled with love and welcoming energy, which continues to shape his music today. Looking ahead, “Wamuhle 2.0” forms part of his upcoming project titled “Tandzile”, which he is currently developing.
Napha Musiq said his long-term goal is to become one of the greats in the industry, citing inspiration from artists such as Young Zesh, Lyrical Busta and Sancheziey. He hopes to inspire young people from his hometown to believe in their dreams despite challenges. “Dreams do come true no matter how hard it may seem, as long as you are focused and disciplined,” he said.
