MBABANE- The newly appointed Chairperson of the Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA) Board, Penelope Mkhwanazi, has pledged a bold and collaborative approach to positioning Eswatini as a must-visit destination, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, integrity, and innovation.
Speaking at her official introduction before government officials, board members, media, and tourism stakeholders, Mkhwanazi expressed gratitude for the appointment and outlined a vision to strengthen both tourism and environmental stewardship across the Kingdom. “This role is not one I take lightly—it is an opportunity to serve, to listen, and to help shape a future where tourism and environmental sustainability go hand in hand,” she said.
A Mandate of Integrity and Ambition
Mkhwanazi thanked the Honourable Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs and His Majesty’s Government for entrusting her and the newly appointed board with the responsibility of advancing Eswatini’s tourism potential. “As a board, we are committed to executing our mandate with integrity, transparency, innovation, and purpose,” she said. “We will serve diligently and with unwavering commitment to the vision of His Majesty, the Government, and the people of Eswatini.”
Partners in Progress
She also welcomed her fellow board members, describing them as individuals of “great competence, commitment, and character.” Addressing members of the media, she highlighted their critical role in amplifying Eswatini’s story to the world. “Eswatini’s story is one of resilience, beauty, diversity, and possibility and we look forward to working hand in hand with you to tell it,” she said.
Tourism as a Shared National Mission
Calling on all stakeholders including the private sector, local communities, and citizens—Mkhwanazi stressed the importance of unity in unlocking the full potential of the tourism and environmental sectors. “We cannot do this alone. It will take shared responsibility, creativity, and collaboration to move forward,” she stated.
Meeting Global Demand with Local Strengths
She noted that the global tourism landscape is evolving, with travellers increasingly seeking authentic experiences, safe environments, and sustainable practices. Eswatini, she said, is well-positioned to meet this demand. “Eswatini offers all of that and more,” she said. “Let us work together to ensure that our Kingdom is not just seen, but remembered.”
The Chairperson ended the speech by urging everyone to join forces in making Eswatini a truly unforgettable destination for visitors worldwide. She emphasised the importance of unity and collective effort in raising the country’s profile on the global tourism map.
