MBABANE— For 22-year-old Brandon Joshua Kelly, the journey from small-town beginnings to commanding the runway is a story shaped by resilience, vision and an unshakable belief in self-worth.
Raised between Malkerns and Manzini, Kelly’s early years were grounded in community and education, attending Malkerns Valley Primary School and later Salesian High School, before enrolling at IDM College. Yet, it was during the stillness of the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown that his path began to take shape.
With time on his hands and a natural inclination towards style, Kelly launched an Instagram page, curating outfits and expressing his passion for fashion. What began as a personal outlet quickly grew into opportunity. By late 2021, he landed his first major modelling gig at a prestigious event hosted by Simon Brown, marking his runway debut and opening doors to a wave of collaborations, photoshoots and fashion shows.
Despite his growing success, Kelly’s journey was not without obstacles. He recalls facing criticism from those who doubted the viability of modelling in Eswatini, as well as personal struggles with severe acne often cited as a barrier in the industry. But through discipline, self-belief and a commitment to personal growth, he defied expectations.
Today, Kelly boasts an impressive portfolio, having walked in over eight runway shows, collaborated with more than 25 brands and completed over 14 photoshoots. One standout moment remains his experience at the Luju Food & Lifestyle Festival, where he modelled multiple outfits and earned a showstopper role an affirmation of his artistry and presence.
Beyond the runway, Kelly is driven by purpose. He mentors aspiring models and champions a message of confidence and faith, urging others to “own your worth” and remain steadfast in the face of doubt.
For Kelly, modelling is more than aesthetics it is a platform for impact, a calling to inspire youth and a testament to the power of perseverance.
