LAVUMISA – World Vision Eswatini has mobilised the Lavumisa community in a bold campaign against child abuse and gender-based violence (GBV), leading a peaceful march through the town under its Somntongo Area Programme.
The awareness event, held on July 9, 2025, attracted wide participation, including learners from various schools across Shiselweni, the Royal Eswatini Police Service, officials from the Department of Social Welfare under the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, and community leaders all united in the call to protect children.

Children held placards denouncing abuse and promoting kindness, sending a clear message that violence against children must end. The march aimed not only to condemn rising cases of abuse but also to educate the public and encourage open dialogue.
World Vision Shiselweni Cluster Manager Musa Mkhumane addressed the crowd, warning of the emotional damage caused by abusive environments.

“If we do not stop abuse, we are raising a generation filled with anger, bitterness, and trauma. Children reflect what we expose them to,” he said.
He further appealed to faith leaders to instil hope and spiritual resilience in children, especially those affected by neglect or violence.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, Social Welfare Officer Nozipho Shabangu highlighted the long-term consequences abuse has on victims.

“Even after legal action, the emotional scars remain. These often manifest in poor emotional regulation, lack of trust, and mental health challenges later in life,” she explained.
World Vision reaffirmed its commitment to advancing child protection, encouraging communities to play a proactive role in creating safe, nurturing environments for every child.
