MBABANE – Piggs Peak Town Council is taking part in the Second Africa Urban Forum currently underway in Nairobi, Kenya, where urban leaders from across the continent have convened to address pressing housing and development challenges under the theme “Adequate Housing for All.”
The delegation from Piggs Peak is led by His Lordship Mayor, Councillor Sipho Shongwe, accompanied by Chief Executive Officer Roison Pave. Their participation marks a strategic step toward strengthening the town’s approach to urban planning and sustainable development.
The high-level forum has attracted city leaders, policymakers, development partners, and key stakeholders, all focused on finding practical and innovative solutions to Africa’s growing urbanisation demands. Central to the discussions are issues such as innovative financing for housing, public-private partnerships, blended financing models, and the integration of artificial intelligence and smart city technologies in urban management.
For Piggs Peak Town Council, the gathering presents a crucial platform to gain insight into modern urban development strategies. Particular emphasis is being placed on corridor urban planning, infrastructure development, resource mobilisation, and resilience building areas considered essential for improving the quality of life in local communities.
Council representatives are also engaging with other municipalities and national government bodies, including the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, to exchange knowledge and best practices. These engagements are expected to enhance Piggs Peak’s capacity to implement sustainable urban solutions tailored to the needs of its residents.
The forum is further providing an opportunity to build partnerships that could unlock long-term investments and technical support for housing and infrastructure projects back home. By aligning global ideas with local realities, the council aims to translate the knowledge gained into tangible outcomes that will benefit the Piggs Peak community.
