MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has urged emaSwati to adopt healthier lifestyles and contribute to the life-saving act of blood donation, saying that a nation’s productivity begins with the well-being of its people.

He was speaking during a Wellness Day held at the Prime Minister’s Office, an event hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Public Sector HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee (PSHACC). The event was designed to promote preventive healthcare and encourage government staff to take charge of their health.

As part of the activities, the Prime Minister personally demonstrated his commitment to wellness by donating blood. He also underwent several health checks, including tests for diabetes, blood pressure screening, and a Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment. Touring the various service stalls, PM Dlamini was briefed on different wellness programmes that were on offer.

Staff members and attendees had access to a wide range of free health services, which included cancer screening, HIV and Tuberculosis testing, as well as nutrition and lifestyle counselling. These services reflected the government’s goal of ensuring that health education and preventive care remain accessible.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister noted the rising levels of lifestyle-related conditions in the country, particularly obesity. “We note the increase in obesity in the country and we encourage emaSwati to practise a healthy lifestyle. I also encourage the Nation, along with corporate entities and organisations, to collaborate with the Ministry of Health to ensure that their employees donate blood,” he said.

The Prime Minister also used the platform to appreciate the role of wellness staff, urging them to continue upholding their professional values. “Uphold your work ethic at all times. Apply diligence, respect your oath of duty, and maintain a spirit of excellence in serving the Nation,” he said.

The Wellness Day not only offered critical health services but also reinforced the message that every citizen has a role to play in building a healthier Eswatini—whether by adopting better habits, supporting national wellness campaigns, or donating blood to save lives.
