SIDVOKODVO– A shop owner in Nhlambeni is counting his losses with relief after police arrested a 29-year-old Malawian man and recovered part of the money stolen during an early morning break-in at Ali Cash and Carry.
The suspect was arrested on April 2, 2026, following the incident which occurred at around 0530 hours when the shop was broken into and E17 990 stolen. Swift action by Sidvokodvo police led to the recovery of E12 699, reducing what could have been a major financial setback for the business.
For the shop owner, the recovery brings a sense of hope after what began as a distressing morning. Small businesses rely heavily on daily income, and incidents of theft can disrupt operations, affect employees and place financial strain on families who depend on such enterprises for survival.
Police investigations later linked the suspect to another housebreaking and theft case in Matsapha, where E306 000 was stolen from a safe at a Family Cash and Carry shop. Authorities say this connection marks a significant breakthrough in tackling a pattern of related crimes affecting businesses in different areas.
Cases of housebreaking and theft continue to affect communities and small enterprises, often resulting in financial losses and insecurity among business owners.
