MANZINI – A familiar gospel voice is heading to Manzini, and this time, the stage is set for worship.
Putuma Tiso has already sung on jazz stages, shared spaces with some of South Africa’s respected music names and built a career around worship. Now, her voice is heading to Manzini for a night dedicated to an encounter with God. Tiso is set to headline the fifth edition of the Mount Zion Experience on 30 October 2026 at the Metropolitan Evangelical Church.
Her journey into gospel was not an overnight switch. She first entered the music industry as an Afro-pop artist in 2010 and later explored Afro-jazz, performing at major platforms including the Cape Town International Jazz Festival. She has also encountered some of the country’s established artists, including Sibongile Khumalo and the late Hugh Masekela.
It was during one of her jazz performances that Tiso says she recognised gospel as her calling. That realisation eventually shaped a catalogue that includes “Jesu Dwala,” “Yebo,” “Ngiyakuthanda Jesu,” “I Will Not Be Silent” and “Ebenezer.”
Her latest body of work, HEALING IN WORSHIP, released in 2026, continues that direction, featuring songs such as “Nkosi YeZulu,” “Ngenelela,” “Bayede” and “I Will Not Be Silent.” That journey makes her appearance at Mount Zion particularly fitting.
The Mount Zion Experience will run from 6pm to 6am, with the programme centred on the Word, prayer, hymns, psalms and spiritual songs. Rather than simply bringing a recognised gospel name to the stage, the event places Tiso in an environment that closely reflects the musical path she eventually chose one where worship is the main focus.
For the fifth edition of Mount Zion, her presence adds a voice with years of experience, a catalogue familiar to gospel listeners and a story of finding purpose through music. On 30 October, Manzini will hear that story through song.
