SIMUNYE – The Royal Eswatini Sugar Corporation (RES) has officially opened its E1 million worth Marbling Butchery in Simunye, a strategic investment expected to create jobs, improve access to quality meat products and stimulate economic growth in the Lubombo region.

Officially opening the facility on Monday July 27,2026, RES Managing Director Nick Jackson said the investment demonstrated the corporation’s commitment to growing its business while creating opportunities for emaSwati.

Jackson said although RES was focused on reducing operational costs and implementing austerity measures, it remained important to invest in projects that generate long-term value.

“Yes, we are looking at the unit cost and implementing austerity measures, but that does not mean we should stop spending money to make money,” he said.

He said the Marbling Butchery had already shown promising results, adding that its success was driven by teamwork across different departments within the corporation.

“The butchery is already taking off and performing wonderfully. It was the result of different departments working together instead of operating in silos,” said Jackson.

RES Livestock and Game Manager Machawe Dlamini said the butchery would create lasting economic benefits for the community by providing employment and bringing quality meat products closer to residents.

He said the project created jobs for emaSwati during construction and has continued to employ more people since opening.

Dlamini added that residents of Simunye, Lomahasha, Shewula, Maphiveni, Ngomane and Thabankulu would no longer have to travel long distances to buy fresh, affordable and high-quality meat.

“The opening of Marbling Butchery is about more than selling meat. It is about bringing development closer to our communities, creating employment and improving access to quality products,” he said.

The corporation said the butchery forms part of its broader strategy to diversify its business portfolio beyond sugar production while investing in projects that strengthen local economies, create employment and improve livelihoods in communities where it operates.
