SIGCAWENI- Rising artist Khumalo Sambulo, widely known by his stage name Sam’k, is using music as a powerful tool to heal, inspire, and pay tribute to his mother, whom he never fully got to know.
Born and raised in Sigcaweni around Malindza in the Lubombo Region, Sam’k draws strength and inspiration from the life and memories of his mother, who passed away when he was very young. Raised by his grandmother, he is now pursuing a three-year associate degree in Music Design at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
Sam’k’s journey in music began as a means of coping with his loss. “I’ve never felt the love of a mother, but I know what she meant to me and what mothers mean to the world,” he shares. This deep sense of longing and appreciation for maternal love fueled his decision to create the heartfelt track “Mama”. “That’s why I released the track ‘Mama’—to appreciate her and remind my peers to cherish and respect their mothers while they still have them.”
The emotional depth of “Mama” has resonated with many music lovers, gaining significant attention for its poignant message. The song captures the essence of maternal love and the void left by loss, making it relatable to anyone who has experienced similar heartache. The reaction from listeners has been overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing how the song struck a chord with their own experiences.

But for Sam’k, this journey is just beginning. He is now preparing to release a new siSwati track titled “Make.”This latest offering serves not only as a personal tribute but also as a motivational anthem dedicated to everyone who has lost a parent. “This song is for every liSwati who has lost a parent. I want them to know that it’s not the end of the journey. We must keep going, no matter how painful it is,” he emphasizes. Through “Make,”Sam’k aims to provide solace and hope to those navigating the painful waters of grief.
Sam’k is not walking this journey alone. He expresses deep appreciation for his musical brother Mvuselelo Sikhosana, known as De Mvu, who has been instrumental in both his personal and creative growth. “He’s been like a brother to me. We share the same vision, and we always encourage each other, no matter the challenges.” Their bond has strengthened their artistic endeavors, leading to meaningful collaborations that elevate their music.
The duo recently released an EP titled “Muhle Msamu,” now available on all major digital platforms. This project showcases their unique sound and commitment to pushing boundaries within the music scene. Sam’k also acknowledges the support of fellow artists Emzee Martian and Cym Malika, who are part of his upcoming tribute project, along with creative collaborator Seluleko Nxumalo, known as Selly.
As the music scene in Eswatini continues to flourish, Sam’k is committed to elevating local entertainment to new heights. “We want to push boundaries. We believe Eswatini has talent that deserves international recognition,” he asserts. His dedication to showcasing local talent is evident in his collaborations and willingness to uplift fellow artists.
In a message to upcoming artists in the country, Sam’k encourages perseverance. “Even if the road gets tough, they must keep digging. One day, they will break through.” His words serve as a reminder that the journey of an artist is often filled with challenges, but resilience and passion can lead to success.
