MBABANE – The Rotary Club of Mbuluzi Mbabane officially launched the 20th edition of the Sibebe Survivor Challenge, one of Eswatini’s most iconic fundraising events. In a speech delivered by Club President Sikhumbuzo Mbuyisa, the focus was clear: partnership, community impact, and the continued commitment to Rotary’s mission of “Service Above Self.”
The event, held against the backdrop of Sibebe Rock’s legendary terrain, is more than a physical challenge—it’s a movement of purpose. “This support is not just a donation; it is a commitment to our shared vision of a better world,” said Mbuyisa, thanking Nedbank Eswatini for their continued sponsorship since the challenge’s inception in 2004. “It is a testament to the power of collaboration and a beacon of hope for the communities we serve.”
Funds raised from the Sibebe Survivor Challenge directly support life-changing projects across Eswatini. From school bursaries and health services to water, sanitation, and support for vulnerable groups, every step taken on the mountain echoes far beyond the trail.
Last year, the event attracted 3,681 registered walkers, generating a gross income of E1.43 million. After expenses, E873,445 was made available for charitable projects—all governed by Rotary’s seven areas of focus, which include peacebuilding, disease prevention, education, and environmental protection. “We’re not just providing resources—we’re empowering communities to reach their full potential,” said Mbuyisa. He praised Rotary’s methodical approach to project assessment, ensuring every initiative is driven by real need and long-term sustainability.
Environmental conservation remains a top priority. Mbuyisa urged participants to leave nothing behind but footprints. Reusable water bottles and clean-up efforts are central to preserving the beauty of Sibebe Rock. Looking ahead, Sibebe Survivor 2025 will take place on Sunday, 27th July 2025, with registration now open online. Corporate teams and individuals alike are encouraged to join, with goodie bags available to the first 5,000 participants.
In closing, Mbuyisa called for greater collaboration: “To our sponsors—Nedbank, MTN FinTech, and others—we say thank you. And to other corporates: come on board. Let’s change lives, together.” The power of this event lies not only in its climb, but in the collective will to lift others higher.
