MBABANE – The Women Football National team, Sitsebe has been handed a tough draw in the COSAFA Women’s Championship as they will face South Africa’s Women Football team, Banyana Banyana in Group A of the tournament.
Banyana Banyana is record seven-time winners of the competitions. The group is completed by the duo of Namibia and Seychelles who will be debuting in the tournament. Only the top teams advanced to the semi-finals.
This year’s tournament is record-breaking there are 14 teams competing in this year’s tournament, making it the biggest women’s international competition yet staged on the African continent.
The tournament will be staged in Gqeberha (Former Port Elizabeth), South Africa from October 22 to November 2, 20224.
According to cosafa.com, defending champions Malawi will hope to progress from Group B to the semi-finals but face a tough Botswana side who reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The 2022 winners Zambia headline the three-team Group C along with Angola and Comoros, while Group D contains Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
There will be two venues used in Gqeberha, including the iconic Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium that was built ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and remains among the best stadia in Africa.
The fixtures are yet to be released same with Sitsebe that will be representing the country.
