MBABANE– A landmark milestone for our very own Size Killa!
Local rapper and audio engineer Size Killa, born Sizwe Mthethwa, has penned a distribution deal with online European distributor Symphonic Distribution and SA (South Africa) based label Vinyl Avenue Group.
In an exclusive interview with this publication Mthethwa shared that the Symphonic Distribution is a 100% independent company offering digital music distribution services, video distribution, royalty collection, music promotion and much more for creators.
The online distributor was founded in 2006 and has worked with a plethora of independent artists, labels and managers globally to help them build their brands.
The Symphonic Distribution headquarters is based in Tampa, Florida and Nashville, Tennessee (USA) but has team members located all around the world like Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Portugal, Nigeria, Canada and Ireland to mention but a few.
He commented, “ The distribution deal is not only for my music but Symphonic will be distributing all music under Black Race Records SZ, which is a local label founded by me. The intention is to have a distribution stream for all artists under my label, current and still to sign. This will enable them to have their music on all digital stores and afford them a chance to be heard on a global scale,” shared Mthethwa.
A distribution company not only places content from the label on a global scale but they also have internal playlists and other methods of monetizing music. The distribution company also boasts a vast music distribution network and a client support team that helps artists get the most out of their craft and goes as far as collecting and managing royalties for creators.
The Symphonic website states that the company distributes music to one of the largest networks in the industry which includes over 200 digital service providers and ensures that creators monetize every stream and use of their music; which includes platforms like YouTube, Spotify, Apple music, TikTok and more.
“My latest project, Black Shakespeare, has been submitted and approved by the distributor. It will be available on all DSPs end of January 2025 and will be the first of many projects to be released under the label. I also decided it was safer to use my music first so as to check the terrain and hopefully upload more music from the label once we are sure this is a workable situation,” said Size Killa.
The artist stressed the need to see artists reap monetary rewards for their hard work and said he was hopeful that Symphonic was the right choice. “I know a few artists on their roster and that was a motivating factor in choosing Symphonic as I was able to see them deliver in real time,” he said.
“Another point that pushed me to sign this deal was the clear cut percentage splits which are set online and everyone can see what they make. This will teach artists about split sheets and reduce disputes due to royalty collection as every creator’s cut goes directly to them; not to mention the legal assistance the distributor offers in case of royalty mismanagement and copyright infringement,” explained Size Killa.
The artist recently shared a pre-save link on his social media platforms for his album which will be available on all digital stores on 31 January 2025.
