MBABANE – The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) has hailed the swimming squad that represented the country in the XX Africa Aquatic Zone IV Swimming and Open Water Championships in Windhoek, Namibia.
The team that comprised of 18 swimmers with majority debuting in international competitions brought home nine (9) medals through three swimmers. They were Hayley Hoy who brought home four medals three being gold medals and one bronze medal. The others were Luca Fraser with three medals, two being bronze medals and one gold while Chadd Ning won two medals being a gold medal and a bronze medal
“The Eswatini Swim Team returned to the Kingdom with 9 medals (5 Gold and 4 Bronze) and National Records broken in their respective age groups. Congratulations to the swimmers, coaches, Eswatini Swimming Association and the Swimming Community at large,” reads a statement from the ESRC.
The swimmers are likely to strike it rich as the incentivized international excellence through the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs. This is one way of motivating the swimmers.
The government usually present a gold medalists E8 000 each while Silver & Bronze medalists received E5 000 and E3 000 each respectively.
Eswatini swimmers have been one of the shining sporting codes regionally and internationally as they have been snatching medals. The squad was led by Coach Mxolisi Mkhonta and thanks to the about 14 companies that assisted the team financially.
