MBABANE – The duo of Taribo Bhembe and Nolwazi Ngwenya, Bandile Hlophe clinched victories in their respective categories of the 2024 Eswatini Teqball World Championship qualifiers.
The intense finales were played at the Olympafrica Sports Development Centre, Lobamba on Monday (July 22, 2024).
The singles category kicked off with four groups of three players each, with the top two players from each group advancing to the quarter finals.
In the first round of the 2024 Eswatini Teqball World Championship Qualifiers, Bandile Hlophe emerged victorious in the singles competition after edging Mndeni Mbuyisa in an exhilarating final, which ended after the third set.
Meanwhile, the duo of Taribo Bhembe and Nolwazi Ngwenyama emerged victorious in the mixed doubles category after defeating the formidable pair of Naomi DuPont and Mncedisi Kunene in a match that went down the wire, ultimately concluded in a nail-biting third set.
In addition, the duo of Nokwazi Dlamini and Xolani Magagula secured the third place.
The tournament, which features an acquisitive point system, began with 27 registered players competing in the Singles and Mixed Doubles category. The mixed doubles category had eight teams registered and were divided into two groups. The top two teams from each category advanced to the semi-finals.
The qualifiers are set to continue on Saturday (July 27, 2024) and they are expected to be concluded on Sunday (July 28, 2024) at the same venue. As the competition intensifies, teqball fans are eagerly anticipating more exciting matches and standout performances.
