MBABANE – Sprinter Bongiwe Mahlalela has again been honoured by the Tshwane University of Technology during the Prestige Sports Awards.
She was honoured with the International Participation Award during the Wednesday (October 23, 2024) Prestige Sports Awards ceremony. This accolade follows that of October 16 when he was also acknowledged for her remarkable contributions to athletics on an international level.
Mahlalela is currently the leading athlete in both the 100m and 200m events in the country (Eswatini). She was also nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year Award by the technology, a testament to her outstanding performance and dedication to the sport.
Athletics Eswatini (AE) expressed pride in her achievements, stating that having such an elite athlete represents a significant honour for the organization and the country.
Among her notable accomplishments, Mahlalela secured a silver medal at the Curro Podium Games Finals in Pretoria for the 100m event and a bronze medal at the 24th International Athletics Meeting in Slovenska Bistrica, also in the 100m.
Additionally, she reached the semi-finals at the African Athletics Championships in Douala and won a gold medal at the USSA Track & Field Championships in the 200m. Her performance at the African Games in Accra, Ghana, where she earned a bronze medal in the 200m, further solidifies her status as a top athlete.
Athletics Eswatini has called for the nation to celebrate Mahlalela’s success and continue to support her as she strives for excellence in her athletic career. AE said her dedication and achievements serve as an inspiration to many in the country.
