MATSAPHA – “We do not have to corrupt the minds of our children.”
These were the words of Hhoho Region Education Officer, Sizwe Kunene, speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training during the 2025 Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation Prize Presentation, held at KFC Food Alliance in Matsapha Link.
Kunene delivered a heartfelt message urging teachers, parents, and community leaders to guide children towards discipline, hard work, and positive ambition. He stressed that the youth must be taught that success comes through effort and commitment, not shortcuts.
“Our children should be trained and shown that for one to achieve something, they must work hard only then will they truly earn it,” he said.
Representing the Ministry, Kunene applauded the Scara Thindwa Soccer Foundation for using sport as a tool to instill life values among young people. He noted that beyond the competition and trophies, the Foundation’s programmes teach essential lessons about perseverance, teamwork, and respect.
The Education Officer further commended the Foundation for complementing the Ministry’s efforts in shaping disciplined learners who can excel both academically and athletically.
The event, which brought together schools from different regions, saw young athletes celebrated for their dedication throughout the football season, with over E155 000 spent on prizes and training equipment.
Kunene concluded by encouraging schools to continue partnering with organisations that promote holistic education, saying such collaborations are key to building a responsible and productive generation.
