MANZINI– The microphone will be up for grabs at If’s Lounge Manzini this week as the venue turns its usual midweek setting into a karaoke night featuring singer Mandisa Mamba.
Set for Wednesday, 26 August, the evening is expected to bring together music lovers who are willing to trade the role of spectator for a turn in front of the microphone. Mamba will form part of the entertainment, with resident DJs providing music throughout the night and Thando serving as the event MC.
Unlike a conventional live show where audiences mainly watch artists perform, the karaoke format puts the crowd at the centre of the entertainment, with participants choosing songs and taking their own shot at performing them.
The night comes as part of a growing appetite for interactive entertainment, where audiences are given an opportunity to shape the atmosphere rather than simply consume a prepared programme. Mamba’s involvement adds a familiar local music face to the evening, while the resident DJs are expected to keep the music flowing between performances.
Mandisa Mamba’s appearance adds a musical edge to the karaoke night, particularly given her own journey as an R&B artist. Mamba says her love for music and singing eventually grew into a professional pursuit while she was at university, where she realised music could become a career.
Since then, she has grown more confident in her identity as an artist while experimenting with different sounds without losing the emotion and storytelling at the heart of her R&B roots. Her involvement in the karaoke night brings an artist who understands both the performance and storytelling sides of music into an evening built around people finding their own voices.
Entry is listed at E30 after 9pm, while VIP reservations are available through the venue. With Mamba on the line-up and the audience potentially becoming the night’s unexpected performers, the real question may not be who is coming to sing but who will be brave enough to take the microphone.
