PIGG’S PEAK – As Eswatini joins the rest of the continent in commemorating Women’s Month, the spotlight turns to the strength, resilience and achievements of emaSwati women who continue to make a difference in their homes, communities and the country at large.

Women across Eswatini continue to play a critical role in the development of the nation, contributing in sectors ranging from agriculture and business to education, healthcare, politics, arts and community development.

Women’s Month provides an opportunity to celebrate these achievements while also reflecting on the challenges faced by women and girls. Issues such as gender-based violence, economic inequality, unemployment and limited access to opportunities remain important areas requiring collective action.

In rural communities, many women continue to sustain their families through agriculture, small businesses and community initiatives, often turning limited resources into opportunities for their households. Their contribution to the economy and social development remains significant.

The month also highlights the importance of creating opportunities for young women and girls to access education, skills development and leadership platforms. Empowering women is not only about celebrating their achievements, but also ensuring that they have the resources and support needed to reach their full potential.

As Eswatini commemorates Women’s Month, communities, institutions, businesses and government are encouraged to move beyond celebration and invest in initiatives that promote women’s empowerment, safety and economic independence.

The message remains clear: when women are empowered, families and communities become stronger, and the nation moves forward.
