MANZINI – The women behind the decks are continuing to make their presence felt at Simunye Fest, with Zee The DJ becoming the latest female DJ to join the line-up for the three-day festival in Vuvulane.
Her addition brings another female name into a programme that already features women from Eswatini and South Africa, including Keiisy, Expo, ItsAllBlaq, NOEX and Nonto M. Their inclusion creates space for different female voices within a festival line-up spanning music and culture.
For Zee The DJ, the October booking places her among the selectors expected to contribute to the festival’s musical offering. Although the announcement does not detail her planned set, her addition reflects the range of DJs being brought together for the event.
Women have become increasingly visible in DJ culture, taking up space at clubs, festivals and major entertainment gatherings. However, representation on a line-up is only part of the conversation; opportunities to perform before wider audiences can also help DJs build recognition and develop their careers.
Simunye Fest will take place from October 23 to 25 at Vuvulane Sports Ground in the Lubombo Region. The inaugural festival combines music with cultural showcases, food, lifestyle activities and opportunities for local businesses. Organisers have also presented it as a platform for community development and regional tourism.
Zee The DJ joins a programme that has continued to expand as organisers reveal more performers. The festival’s three-day format gives audiences an opportunity to encounter different sounds and performers, while placing local and regional talent within the same gathering. With the festival weekend approaching, her addition adds another name for fans to look out for as Simunye Fest prepares to bring its mix of performers to Vuvulane.
