MBABANE – Eswatini’s vibrant culture and talent are dazzling audiences across Africa as more than 100 emaSwati feature in Season 2 of the acclaimed historical drama Shaka iLembe.

The new season, which premiered on June 12, 2025, at Montecasino in Johannesburg and aired on Sunday at 8PM on Mzansi Magic (Channel 161, DStv), brings Swati history to the forefront for the first time, shining a powerful spotlight on the Kingdom of Eswatini.

This milestone production includes over 100 emaSwati, from extras to lead roles, whose contributions will be revealed throughout the season. Their presence not only enriches the storyline but also celebrates Swati heritage on a continental stage.

Prince Sicelo, speaking on behalf of the Babukisi Foundation at the glittering premiere, shared heartfelt pride:

“People didn’t even know EmaSwati exist, but now we’ve surprised them with our great work. Our culture, landscapes, and people make Eswatini a hidden gem for film production—even Hollywood should take note.”

He further emphasized unity and cultural preservation:

“If we don’t embrace these opportunities, future generations will miss out. We must work together and serve something greater than ourselves.”

Celebrated South African actress Thandeka Dawn King, a key cast member, applauded the inclusion of Swati heritage in this season:

“It’s not just a Zulu tale anymore—young people will now learn how these nations were connected. Without Eswatini, this chapter of history would be incomplete.”

Actor Lemogang Tsipa encouraged aspiring creatives to start telling their own stories using the tools they already have:

“You have the tools. Use them to tell your story, and don’t stop.”

Actress and producer Nomzamo Mbatha, also a leading force behind the series, added:

“Cultural pride builds character. Foundations like Babukisi help the youth love who they are—and that love becomes power.”

At the heart of this cultural breakthrough is the Babukisi Foundation, which works tirelessly to preserve and promote Swati heritage through education and storytelling. Their motto, “Knowledge and Nationhood is Wealth,” now resonates across Africa’s screens.

With the Kingdom now deeply woven into the narrative of Shaka iLembe, Eswatini isn’t just featured—it’s celebrated.
