MBABANE – Twenty health mentors from nine countries are set to strengthen their technical coaching and peer mentorship skills as the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) advances Phase Two of its regional Training of Trainers (ToT) programme.
The three-day training, scheduled for August 12–14, 2026, will equip participating mentors with practical skills in technical coaching, field supervision and peer mentorship, further strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers across the region.
The training is being undertaken by ECSA-HC in collaboration with the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and regional experts, as part of efforts to build a stronger and more capable health workforce.
Ahead of Phase Two, the partners are finalising a customised Frontline Field Epidemiology Training Programme (F-FETP) curriculum that will integrate non-communicable disease (NCD) surveillance into frontline health training.
The mentorship approach is expected to promote knowledge-sharing across countries while enabling experienced health professionals to support and guide frontline workers in their respective settings.
The initiative forms part of the Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience Project (HEPRRP), which operates across 11 countries and seeks to strengthen health systems and equip frontline workers to better monitor and respond to both infectious and non-communicable diseases.
Through the regional training and mentorship programme, participating countries are being supported to develop a more skilled, connected and resilient health workforce capable of contributing to safer and healthier communities.
