“On behalf of His Majesty King Mswati III, Her Majesty the Queen Mother, the Government and the People of the Kingdom of Eswatini, we extend our felicitations to the People of Canada on H.E Carney’s election,” Dlamini said.
“We believe and hope that Canada will continue to thrive through peace and stability under H.E Carney’s esteemed leadership. We are positive that the warm relations that exist between our two countries will continue to deepen with mutual benefits for our Peoples.”
Mark Carney’s Election and Vision
Mark Carney, an economist and political newcomer, was sworn in as Canada’s Prime Minister following a significant victory in the Liberal Party leadership race. He replaces Justin Trudeau, who served for nine years. Carney has previously held prominent roles as the governor of both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, where he played a crucial role in navigating financial crises.
In his inaugural remarks, Carney emphasized his commitment to maintaining Canada’s independence, stating that he would “never” become a part of the United States. He expressed confidence in building a strong future for Canada, despite ongoing tensions with the U.S. under President Donald Trump. Carney’s first foreign trips as Prime Minister are planned for the UK and France next week.
Carney has promised to uphold Canada’s reciprocal tariffs on specific American goods for as long as Trump maintains 25% universal tariffs on Canadian goods not covered by the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) trade deal.
Canada is dependent on trade with the US. Economists say it risks a recession if Trump’s tariffs are fully imposed.
This transition marks a significant moment in Canadian politics, with Carney’s leadership expected to foster continued growth and stability for the country.
