MBABANE- Eswatini Red Cross Society (Baphalali)has begun training volunteers from Lomahasha and Mhlume constituencies to support its upcoming drought relief project using a Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA) approach.
The volunteers, who will serve as enumerators, were oriented on Monday July 07,2025 by a team from the Disaster Management Unit, including the Cash and Voucher Assistance Officer, Disaster Management Officer, National Society Development Coordinator, IT Assistant Officer, and Siteki Branch Field Coordinator. The session aimed to prepare them for household data collection across the affected areas.
Led by Siteki Branch Field Coordinator Thulani Shongwe, the team emphasized the importance of accurate data in ensuring that drought-stricken communities receive timely and appropriate support.
“This is a crucial role,” said Shongwe. “Your performance determines how well we deliver this assistance. The people we serve deserve our best” he added.
Shongwe also met with local council members from chiefdoms in the two constituencies to explain the project and how it will be implemented.
He highlighted the value of the cash-based approach, noting that it gives recipients the freedom to choose how best to meet their household needs.
“The Cash and Voucher Assistance method offers recipients dignity and power of choice,” Shongwe explained. “It allows them to participate in the economy and make decisions that are best for their families.”
The Red Cross Is expected to launch the project soon as part of its broader effort to cushion the impact of drought in Eswatini.
